The Ogun State Police Command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of landlord Benjamin Apeh during a disagreement with his tenant, identified as Mr. Emmanuel, over unpaid rent at Arigbabu village, Sotubo in Sagamu Local Government Area.
According to a statement by Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the investigation was launched following a report of a suspected murder case filed by the deceased’s daughter, Precious Apeh, on Monday at 5:00 p.m. Precious informed the police that her father confronted the tenant around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday regarding the overdue rent. She recounted hearing her father arguing with the tenant at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, during which the tenant allegedly threatened to harm him. Apeh collapsed during the argument and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
The tenant fled the scene, but efforts are underway to apprehend him. SP Temitope Fapohunda and detectives visited the scene for investigation, and updates will follow. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
