The cholera death toll in Nigeria has reached 359 in 2024, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
According to data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday, over 350 individuals have succumbed to cholera in Nigeria during the first nine months of 2024. This figure represents a staggering 239 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
In its most recent report, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed that there were 359 recorded deaths between January and September, marking a substantial increase from the 106 deaths reported during the same period last year.
Additionally, the number of suspected cholera cases surged to 10,837, compared to 3,387 cases in 2023. Notably, children under the age of five constitute the majority of those impacted by this outbreak.

Furthermore, authorities in Borno State, situated in Nigeria’s northeast, announced a cholera outbreak on Friday. This state is already contending with extensive flooding that has displaced nearly two million individuals, thereby exacerbating the public health crisis.
