The Flamingos have been eliminated from the U-17 Women’s World Cup following a quarter-final defeat to the United States on Saturday.
Nigeria emerged victorious in all three matches of Group A, scoring nine goals and accumulating the same number of points to advance to the knockout stage.
However, during their match against the US in Santiago, Nigeria appeared sluggish and posed minimal threat to their opponents.
The situation worsened when top scorer Moshood Bashirat was penalised for a tackle, resulting in a penalty kick.
The United States capitalised on this opportunity, converting the penalty just before halftime to take a lead into the second half.
In the ensuing period, Nigeria struggled to equalise and conceded another goal due to a well-executed counter-attack from the US.
