The council, composed of former Presidents, Heads of State, the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the serving and retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, as well as state governors, expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Former leaders including Generals Yakubu Gowon, Muhammadu Buhari, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan supported President Tinubu.
The council commended Tinubu for resisting a forcible government takeover.
The meeting, the first under President Tinubu’s administration, was briefed on national security by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The council emphasized that any change in leadership should occur through democratic processes, not by force.
The council acknowledged the security situation in the country and emphasized the importance of upholding democracy through lawful means.
