The Katsina State Government reiterates its firm commitment to promoting the state’s cultural heritage and traditions as a means to enhance tourism. Speaking to reporters during the Season 3 Dambe Warriors Circuit Fight 11 Competition held at the Katsina Open Air Theatre, Bala Zango, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, emphasized the state’s hospitable environment for cultural events.
Zango assured the readiness of the state government to organize inter-local government traditional boxing competitions, underscoring Katsina’s reputation as a culture-friendly destination. Chidi Anyina, Co-founder of Dambe Warriors, echoed this sentiment, describing Dambe as a promising avenue for attracting investment, both domestically and internationally, thereby bolstering the economy.
Anyina outlined the league’s structure, which involves fighters competing in different cities across Nigeria, culminating in a final showdown to determine the champions in each category. He emphasized the financial rewards for participants and winners, highlighting the potential for Dambe to reach international acclaim and positively impact the economy through entertainment.
The competition saw intense bouts between fighters from various states, with Autan Kudawa from Kano State emerging victorious with 88 points against Manu Shagon Garkuwar Cindo from Kebbi State, who scored 87 points. Additionally, Aljanin Bahagon from Nasarawa defeated Dan Bahagon Zayyanu with a score of 87 points against 86 points. These thrilling matches underscored the popularity and competitive spirit of Dambe as a cultural sport in Nigeria.
