Nigerian airline Air Peace has announced a significant 100 percent increase in ticket prices nationwide, effective November, coinciding with the approach of the Christmas season.
As of October 25, a one-way flight from Lagos to Abuja was priced at N143,000. However, Following the fare adjustment, this price is expected to rise to N286,000.
This announcement poses a considerable challenge for Nigerians planning to travel to various destinations across the country for year-end festivities.
With insecurity affecting many regions, air travel has become the preferred option for many; however, the continual rise in ticket prices is making air travel increasingly unaffordable for the average citizen.
Earlier this month, President Bola Tinubu raised petrol pump prices to over N1,000, prompting transporters to increase fares nationwide.
This, coupled with the recent hike in airfare, will further exacerbate the financial burden on Nigerians seeking to travel by land or air.
