Full passenger operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line are set to begin on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
This was confirmed by Abimbola Akinajo, the managing director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
The Red Line stretches a total of 37 kilometers from Agbado to Oyingbo, with the initial phase covering 27 kilometers and featuring eight stations: Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado.
This project aims to reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion in the city, with an expected capacity to carry 500,000 passengers daily during full operations.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be at the launch of the passenger operations, joined by his executive council members and other notable guests, as they ride with commuters on the inaugural fee-paying trip.
According to Akinajo, train service schedule has been revised, with passenger operations starting daily at 6:00 AM from Agbado.
Previously, trips began at 9:00 AM from Oyingbo with the first train arriving in Agbado at 10:07 AM.
Akinajo clarified that this new timetable was developed based on data collected from a series of tests, including those involving non-fee-paying passengers.
