A youth faction within Edo State’s Labour Party has announced the dissolution of the party’s state leadership, citing authoritarian conduct. Ken Omusi has been named interim state chairman.
Although the executive members haven’t been suspended, the group has taken over the party’s Benin City secretariat. Kelly Ogbaloi, purportedly ousted chairman, criticized the move, asserting it violates the party’s constitution. In a separate development, the non-political Edo Obidient Movement distanced itself from the LP and its candidate, Olumide Akpata, in the recent election, reaffirming its support for Peter Obi in the 2023 polls.
The movement, represented by Ikhuenbor Figo, expressed disappointment in the LP’s performance and condemned the primary election process, alleging misconduct at various levels of the party’s hierarchy.
