The non-academic staff of federal universities have suspended their strike over withheld salaries effective Tuesday, November 5 2024.
The strike was initiated on Monday, October 28, 2024 as a result of what the unions called “government’s insensitivity to the plights of their members in respect of their legitimate demands”.
The non-teaching staff unions went on the nationwide strike to protest the non-payment of salaries dating back to 2022.
The unions involved in this action were the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
On November 2, the federal government disbursed the withheld salaries owed to the striking workers, along with the pending benefits for retirees.
On Sunday, NASU and SSANU communicated with their state chairpersons across the country, instructing them to suspend the strike effective November 5.
It is important to note that two months’ worth of withheld salaries remains outstanding from the federal government.
