The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, refuted claims that organized labour is advocating for a ₦105,000 minimum wage from the Nigerian Government. Speaking at a press conference following a tripartite committee meeting, Ajaero clarified that the proposed amount did not originate from the organized labour sector.
During the meeting, which convened all committee members, discussions began with a closed-door session lasting approximately three hours. Ajaero expressed optimism about the outcome, anticipating a resolution soon. He emphasized that the reported ₦105,000 figure was not officially presented to the labour delegation, maintaining their stance until an official announcement is made.
Ajaero underscored that until the proposed minimum wage is officially disclosed, the labour sector cannot confirm the government’s position. The matter remains under deliberation, with further discussions expected before any definitive decision is reached.
