The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) under the leadership of Engr. Tabara SK has expressed its displeasure over the protests that rocked some parts of Kaduna.
SOKAPU in a statement issued by Josiah Yusuf Abraks, the Public Relations Officer, stated that the protest took place despite clear facts against it that Governor Uba Sani painstakingly presented and corroborated with previous protests’ ugly history of the State.
SOKAPU explained that there was a unanimous agreement against the protests demonstrated by all sociocultural groups and Religious Leaders present at a Town Hall meeting with Governor Uba Sani on 29th July, 2024.
“The need for citing the history was so needed particularly that there was no guarantee that the protests may not be hijacked by hoodlums. Yet, some overzealous youth and their sponsors made it their business to carry out the protests only to prove right, the position of the Governor and those with him against the planned protests
“No sooner than the protests started, violence was unleashed on innocent people, businesses and properties with even an attempt to attack the Kaduna State Government House, save for the timely intervention of the security forces.
“Consequently, the leadership of SOKAPU Sympathizes with the Executive Governor of Kaduna State particularly His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, his Executive Council and the law-abiding good citizens of the state, over the unfortunate incidents.
We are hereby appealing to the protesting youth and their sponsors to please, give peace a chance because even war is ended by resorting to dialogue. Let all of us join in the dialogue and shun every act that may lead to further violence, for a stitch in time saves nine. Long live Kaduna State! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!” SOKAPU stated.
