John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, officially introduces Finidi George as the new head coach of Nigeria’s national men’s team, the Super Eagles. The unveiling took place in Abuja, attended by key figures from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Monday morning.
Enoh expressed pride in having a Nigerian coach, Finidi George, leading the national team, stating, “Any country where I find an indigenous coach sitting on the bench, I always feel very proud.”
Formerly a player for Real Betis, George assumes the role permanently following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro. He served as Peseiro’s assistant during the last African Cup of Nations, where Nigeria secured second place.
George’s appointment comes after he led the team on an interim basis for international friendlies against Ghana and Mali. His first official task as Head Coach will be guiding the team through the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in June.
