President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) on the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, marking the monarch’s 90th birthday celebration. The announcement was made at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, during the commissioning of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies and the presentation of a book titled “Reinventing Governance in Nigeria: The Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Model.”
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu praised the monarch’s contributions to nation-building and service to humanity, stating that Oba Adetona deserved the prestigious honor due to his meritorious service.
Tinubu highlighted Oba Adetona’s significant contributions to education and national development, expressing admiration for his unwavering character and commitment to justice.
Additionally, the President announced that the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, would take over the management of the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance Studies.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State hailed Oba Adetona as a living legend and a pride to Ijebuland and the entire state. He emphasized the monarch’s dedication to governance and education, noting the establishment of the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance as a testament to his commitment to excellence.
